What am I watching? Castle Rock
Plans to visit the city for an evening of drinking and exploring were replaced by a trip to Hoboken. Mostly because the idea of a crazyish night followed by an early morning exploring Manhattan seemed a bit too overwhelming, and I have to allow myself some pace or I'll burn out.
A very generic search - "historical sites in Hoboken" - rendered me OBSESSED with discovering Sybil's Cave (after a quick exploration of Stevens Institute of Technology because I misdirected the Uber driver.)
Sybil's Cave was engineered by the Stevens family just for funzees to access a natural spring underground. It was a lovely and popular spot for city folk to picnic and socialize - then there was a MURDER. The Beautiful Cigar Girl's slaying made people want to picnic EVEN MORE, naturally. But, eventually Sybil's Cave fell out of popularity, and into disrepair - absolutely buried in the landscape of the cliff. Luckily, there were plenty of photos and/or artists' renderings, and the site was found. With all the skills of theatrical set-building in their fingertips, interested parties rebuilt this very fake archway to mimic the original. How odd. How delightful.
Joe and I also meandered around the riverwalk and Frank Sinatra Park. A very relaxing night to replace one that might have been too boisterous for my state of mind.
Also, after seeing these photos, I'm trying to convince Joe to be my trip photographer. All the photos are his except the one of him.
