Building the New: 2023 Wrap-Up

What quote am I vibing?  "The secret of change is to focus all of your energy not on fighting the old but on building the new." Socrates

Pounds of Trash Removed from the Wild since Last Post: 19

Pounds of Trash Removed from the Wild in 2023: 492

All-Time Pounds of Trash Removed from the Wild: 3,732

2023 was a year of transition and change - a year of decisions and goodbyes, bittersweet and shifting.

It had been about a decade since I moved locations, so even though moving was something that felt very familiar in my 20's, I found it very difficult to leave the place I spent most of my adult life. The move to Charlotte has been a wonderful thing, and Brian and I are very happy in our new home, exploring a new area.

Finding the right moments for cleanups has proved challenging for me. I often opt to do cleaning and organizing chores in our new home over the somewhat intimidating task of putting myself out there in a new neighborhood. But, this cautious era feels like it is ending. 2023 is over, and we picked up 492 pounds of trash in Florida and North Carolina.

The goal for 2024 is 704 pounds (704 is Charlotte's area code) - I feel very confident about meeting this goal on the greenways and streets of my new home.

November 19. First Official Charlotte Cleanup with Brian, in our Idlewild neighborhood. 5 pounds.

November 25. Idlewild. 3 pounds.

November 30. Idlewild. 6 pounds.

December 21. Idlewild. 5 pounds.
