For us is the life of action

What quote am I vibing? "A soft, easy life is not worth living, if it impairs the fiber of brain and heart and muscle. We must dare to be great; and we must realize that greatness is the fruit of toil and sacrifice and high courage. For us is the life of action, of strenuous performance of duty. Let us live in the harness, striving mightily. Let us rather run the risk of wearing out than rusting out." Theodore Roosevelt

What am I reading? The Wright Brothers, by David McCullough

Road Day: 10

After training for a new role at work today, I asked my Dad to take me for an evening hike up through the Big Hollow. David Miller, a legitimate mountain man, a seeker of both peace and adventure, and my original photographer, was more than happy to oblige.

It's always wonderful to share quiet time in the woods with my Dad. He is intimately familiar with most of the mountain, and has an interesting story to tell about most of the clearings, bends, and ledges. The stretch of the Appalachians where I grew up is one of the most beautiful little pockets of forest and incline that exists in the world. I truly believe that, and I am so grateful to have been raised in such a place.

Tell me you can't feel the calm in these beautiful green photos. Listen to the mountain stream flowing as I struggle to realize my Dad is taking a video and not a picture. (I filled my water bottle up twice with that rushing water. Yum.)

Let's all be more like my Dad, striving mightily for a life in harmony with Nature.

Everything the light touches.

Creek contemplation. No matter how you pronounce it.

Dad surveying his world.

I finally learned to look up.
