Not quite fatal

What quote am I vibing? “Why should we tolerate a diet of weak poisons, a home in insipid surroundings, a circle of acquaintances who are not quite our enemies, the noise of motors with just enough relief to prevent insanity? Who would want to live in a world which is just not quite fatal?” Rachel Carson

I know I usually try to be a little more optimistic during Earth Month, but the recent news of microplastic in our blood, and now microplastic in our lungs - has me feeling a little - feisty. We should want to be better for ourselves and our babies. Until we can fundamentally change our need to constantly consume, we will keep transitioning into weird plastic people.

But, truly - Happy Earth Month! April has been a busy month so far, and will continue to be so. I've started a little Spring Cleaning / Earth Month challenge that I hope I can turn into an annual event - the Neighborhood Cigarette Cleanup (capital letters not required) - I have worked on this for about two days, and finished about half my normal "neighborhood" route (about 1.5 miles) - and I have picked up 560 cigarettes so far. When I do my weekly neighborhood cleanups, I pick up obvious in my way cigarettes, but I never do a truly deep dive into the grass by the sidewalk, or the cracks in the asphalt. That's what I'm doing now - I hope this will give me a better idea of how many cigarettes build throughout a week, month, year... Too many!

Also, the Bob Graham Beach Project continues with Brian - we have pulled 204 pounds of mostly cans from the woods adjacent to the parking lot over the past month - we have two or three more visits until the project is "done." For now.
