The mountain of things we throw away

What quote am I vibing? "American cities are like badger holes, ringed with trash--all of them--surrounded by piles of wrecked and rusting automobiles, and almost smothered in rubbish. Everything we use comes in boxes, cartons, bins, the so-called packaging we love so much. The mountain of things we throw away are much greater than the things we use." John Steinbeck

All-Time Pounds of Trash Removed from the Wild: 1062

This week was (almost) all about Bathtub Reef Beach! It has been a windy, stormy week, and stormy seas always make for good trash picking. It is nice to snatch the trash right out of the tide before it gets pulled back in.

I have been wanting to do a trash-sort and display for a little while, and last night's two-bucket extravaganza seemed just the haul. It was a nice variety, and didn't include any scary hooks or needles that could hurt me as I was sorting everything out. I thought giving myself the night off to do this little project would be relaxing, but all the bending and sorting made me sweatier and made me feel more filthy than an actual cleaning, so I hope you enjoy! :)

Two buckets worth of trash - 14 pounds from Bathtub Reef Beach. (Collected on August 24.)

Other half - plastic this and that, ropes and ribbons, cutlery, fishing stuff, clothing and shoes.

The very best in Kitchen Essentials.
